Description
Generic name: dasiglucagon
Drug class: Glucose elevating agents
Dosage form: Injection (0.6 mg/0.6 mL single-dose autoinjector or prefilled syringe)
Route of administration: Subcutaneous injection
Dose: 0.6 mg administered subcutaneously; if no response after 15 minutes, an additional dose may be given
Mechanism of action: Dasiglucagon is a glucagon receptor agonist that stimulates hepatic glycogen breakdown and glucose release, increasing blood glucose levels to counteract hypoglycemia.
Drug usage cases:
- Treatment of severe hypoglycemia in adults and children aged 6 years and older with diabetes mellitus
Drug contraindications:
- Pheochromocytoma
- Insulinoma
Side effects:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Headache
- Diarrhea
- Injection site pain
- Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylactic shock with breathing difficulties and hypotension
Warnings:
- May cause substantial increase in blood pressure in patients with pheochromocytoma
- May cause hypoglycemia in patients with insulinoma
- Use with caution in patients with insufficient hepatic glycogen stores due to starvation, adrenal insufficiency, or chronic hypoglycemia
- Instruct caregivers in proper use; if no response after 15 minutes, seek emergency medical assistance
