Drug class: Antihistamines
Dosage form: Tablets (30 mg, 60 mg, 180 mg), orally disintegrating tablets (30 mg), oral suspension (6 mg/mL)
Root of administration: Oral
Dose:
- Adults and children 12 years and older: 60 mg twice daily or 180 mg once daily
- Children 6 to 11 years: 30 mg twice daily
- Children under 6 years: Dosage should be determined by a physician
Mechanism of action: Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist that competitively binds to H1 receptors, inhibiting histamine-induced effects such as vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and smooth muscle contraction, thereby reducing allergic symptoms.
Drug usage cases:
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
- Perennial allergic rhinitis
- Chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives)
Drug contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any component of the formulation
