Description
Generic name: Aminocaproic acid
Drug class: Hemostatic agent
Dosage form: Oral solution, tablets

Mechanism of action: Aminocaproic acid inhibits fibrinolysis by blocking plasminogen activators and, to a lesser extent, plasmin activity, thereby stabilizing blood clots and reducing bleeding.
Drug usage cases:
- Control of bleeding in conditions with elevated fibrinolytic activity, such as after certain surgeries or trauma.
- Management of bleeding associated with hyperfibrinolysis.
- Adjunctive treatment in patients with hemophilia undergoing dental procedures.

- Hypersensitivity to aminocaproic acid or any component of the formulation.
- History of thromboembolic events or known risk factors for thrombosis.
Side effects:
- Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
- Neurological: Dizziness, headache, fatigue, blurred vision, tinnitus.
- Musculoskeletal: Muscle cramps, myopathy, rhabdomyolysis.
- Cardiovascular: Hypotension, bradycardia, thrombosis.
- Renal: Dark-colored urine, decreased urine output, renal failure.
- Hypersensitivity reactions: Rash, pruritus, anaphylaxis.
Warnings:
- Monitor renal function during prolonged therapy due to potential nephrotoxicity.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of thromboembolic events.
- Discontinue if signs of thrombosis or embolism occur.
- Avoid concurrent use with other antifibrinolytic agents.
- Not recommended during pregnancy; use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare provider.
- Exercise caution in breastfeeding; consult a healthcare provider before use.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding: Aminocaproic acid is not recommended during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, thinking about becoming pregnant, or are breastfeeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting this treatment.
