Generic name: Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol
Drug class: Contraceptives
Dosage form: Tablets
Route of administration: Oral
Dose: One tablet daily for 91 consecutive days, consisting of 84 light blue-green tablets containing 0.15 mg levonorgestrel and 0.03 mg ethinyl estradiol, followed by 7 yellow tablets containing 0.01 mg ethinyl estradiol.
Mechanism of action: Camrese is a combination oral contraceptive that prevents pregnancy through multiple mechanisms: it inhibits ovulation by maintaining steady hormone levels, thickens cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration, and alters the endometrial lining to prevent implantation.

- Management of heavy menstrual bleeding
- Treatment of endometriosis-related pain
- Regulation of menstrual cycles
- Management of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
Drug contraindications:
- High risk of arterial or venous thrombotic diseases, including current or history of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, cerebrovascular disease, coronary artery disease, thrombogenic valvular or rhythm diseases of the heart, and inherited or acquired hypercoagulopathies
- Uncontrolled hypertension or hypertension with vascular disease
- Current or history of breast cancer or other estrogen- or progestin-sensitive cancers
- Liver tumors, acute viral hepatitis, or severe (decompensated) cirrhosis
- Undiagnosed abnormal uterine bleeding
- Use of Hepatitis C drug combinations containing ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir, with or without dasabuvir
- Women over 35 years old who smoke
Side effects:
- Irregular and/or heavy uterine bleeding
- Weight gain
- Acne
- Headaches
- Breast tenderness
- Nausea
- Depression
- Decreased libido
- Elevated blood pressure
- Changes in mood
Warnings:
- Smoking increases the risk of serious cardiovascular events; avoid smoking while using Camrese
- Monitor blood pressure regularly; discontinue use if significant hypertension develops
- Discontinue if jaundice occurs
- Use caution in women with a history of depression; monitor mood changes
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy; discontinue if pregnancy occurs
- Use additional non-hormonal contraception if pills are missed or during gastrointestinal disturbances
- Discontinue at least 4 weeks before and through 2 weeks after major surgery due to increased risk of thromboembolic events
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding: Camrese is contraindicated during pregnancy; discontinue use if pregnancy occurs. It is not recommended during breastfeeding, as it may affect milk production and composition. Consult a healthcare provider for alternative contraceptive methods during lactation.
