Mechanism of action: Glimepiride works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body use glucose for energy. By increasing the amount of insulin in the blood, glimepiride can help to lower blood sugar levels.
Drug usage cases: Glimepiride is an oral diabetes medicine that is used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. glimepiride is not for treating type 1 diabetes.

Drug contraindications: You should not use glimepiride if you are allergic to it, or if you have:
- an allergy to sulfa drugs
- diabetic ketoacidosis (call your doctor for treatment)
Side effects: Glimepiride may cause serious side effects. Call your doctor at once if you have:
- pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine
- confusion, weakness
- fever
Warnings: You should not use glimepiride if you have diabetic ketoacidosis, or if you are allergic to sulfa drugs.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding: If you take glimepiride during pregnancy, stop taking this medicine at least 2 weeks before your due date.
If you breastfeed while taking glimepiride, call your doctor if your baby shows signs of hypoglycemia
