Drug usage cases: Navane is used primarily in the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. It helps manage symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking.
Drug contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with circulatory collapse, comatose states, severe central nervous system depression due to any cause, blood dyscrasias, or a history of hypersensitivity to thiothixene or any of its components.
Side effects: Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and weight gain. More serious side effects include tardive dyskinesia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, and extrapyramidal symptoms.
Warnings: Caution is advised in patients with a history of seizures, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, and prostate enlargement. Long-term use can lead to tardive dyskinesia, a potentially irreversible condition. Regular monitoring of mental status, liver function, and blood counts is recommended.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding: Thiothixene is categorized as a pregnancy category C drug. It should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits justify the potential risks. Thiothixene is excreted in human milk, and breastfeeding is not recommended while using this medication.
